🔒 Privacy-First Approach
StackScope is built with privacy as a core principle. We don't collect, store, or transmit any personal data. All analysis happens locally in your browser.
1. Information We Don't Collect
StackScope is designed to respect your privacy. We explicitly DO NOT collect:
- Personal information (name, email, address, etc.)
- Browsing history or URLs you visit
- Website content or data from pages you analyze
- IP addresses or location data
- Cookies or tracking identifiers
- Usage statistics or analytics
- Any data that could identify you
2. How StackScope Works
StackScope operates entirely within your browser:
- Local Analysis: When you click "Scan", the extension analyzes the current webpage's HTML, JavaScript, and CSS locally in your browser.
- Pattern Matching: It compares the page content against our database of 2,390+ technology signatures stored locally in the extension.
- Display Results: Detected technologies are displayed only to you in the popup interface.
- No External Communication: No data is sent to external servers, APIs, or third parties.
3. Permissions Explained
StackScope requires minimal permissions to function:
activeTab
Allows the extension to read the content of the currently active tab when you click the "Scan" button. This is necessary to analyze the technologies used on the page.
scripting
Enables the extension to inject a content script that reads the page's HTML, JavaScript globals, and meta tags for technology detection.
That's it! We don't request access to:
- All websites (only active tab when you click)
- Your browsing history
- Your downloads
- Your bookmarks
- Network requests
4. Data Storage
StackScope stores minimal data locally on your device:
- Technology Database: The fingerprints.json file containing 2,390+ technology signatures is stored as part of the extension.
- User Preferences: Settings like sort order and evidence display preferences are stored locally using Chrome's storage API.
- No Cloud Storage: Nothing is synced or stored in the cloud.
5. Third-Party Services
StackScope does not use any third-party services, analytics, or tracking tools.
- No Google Analytics
- No error tracking services
- No advertising networks
- No external APIs
6. Open Source Transparency
StackScope is fully open source. You can:
- Review the complete source code on GitHub
- Verify that no data collection occurs
- Audit the permissions and functionality
- Contribute improvements or report issues
7. Export Functionality
When you use the export features (JSON/CSV):
- Data is generated locally in your browser
- Files are downloaded directly to your device
- No data is sent to external servers
- You have complete control over the exported data
8. Updates to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date below
- Notify users through the extension update notes
- Maintain our commitment to privacy
9. Children's Privacy
StackScope does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. The extension is designed for developers and technical users.
10. Your Rights
Since we don't collect any personal data, there's nothing to:
- Request access to
- Request deletion of
- Request correction of
- Opt out of
Your privacy is protected by design.
